It's said that 'Man plans and God laughs' and I believe it to be absolutely true.

I have never been one to make major plans. All I do is go for a walk and the people and opportunities present themselves.

One day about 13 years I decided to see an independent film at a tiny theatre in SoHo. The guy at the refreshment stand quoted a price so high on a cup of Coke so small that I was totally insulted. With about 30 minutes to show time I decided to go out for a snack. Right next to the theatre was a showroom with a help wanted sign. I applied for a secretarial position and was sales manager just a few months later.

When my daughter was young I spent way more than I should have during the holidays. I remember telling my husband, 'I wish I had a thousand extra dollars to pay things off.' Just a couple days later I got a belated birthday/Christmas gift. You guessed it - ten one hundred dollar bills - some business advice I gave a friend worked out well.

My life has been a series of similar stories.

So go take a walk, and while you're stepping doing something nice for someone you know - or don't - just cuz.
